Editor's note – July 2018

Many thanks to the speakers, sponsors and delegates for making our fourth Cabin Repair & Refurbishment Conference on 12 June such a resounding success. We now turn our attention to the fourth Aircraft Cabin Maintenance Conference to be held at the Radisson Blu Edwardian at Heathrow in November. Look out for confirmation of the date and we hope to see you there!
This is, of course, the time for shows. The Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg in April was the biggest yet, as the industry continues to enjoy supporting a booming airline industry, although there are some oil price clouds on the horizon. Once again, the big two were safely ensconced in their fortress stands but smaller suppliers are eating into their market share through dissatisfaction and rumour has it the organisers may bring the walls tumbling down next year.
Two emerging technologies at the show were 3D printing and data collection via wifi. We have features on both in this issue, 3D printing from Stratasys, and the intelligent Cabin (iCabin) project – an Abu Dhabi/US joint project funded by the German government, it promises to change cabin maintenance and improve the passenger experience.
Mitsubishi have had a full-scale cabin mock-up of their MRJ regional jet at Farnborough for a number of years but the 2018 show should see the debut of the real aircraft, the development programme having suffered serious delays. Otherwise, we have come to the end of new models.
