Editor's note – April 2018

It’s April, it’s Hamburg, it must be Aircraft Interiors Expo. So what can we expect this year?

Perhaps there might be the first signs of change from the big two interior suppliers, following their respective takeovers. In the case of B/E Aerospace, new owner Rockwell Collins was subsequently acquired by United Technologies and will be combined with UTC Aerospace Systems when the takeover is approved to create Collins Aerospace Systems. On the other hand, Safran is promising an update on the integration and synergies plan for Zodiac Aerospace in April.

Wifi and connectivity are still the ‘must have’ items, it seems, although the launch date of the European Aviation Network terrestrial system seems to be somewhat vague at present – first half of 2018.

There have been major cabin upgrades from Emirates, Qatar and Singapore but, unusually, these are refits for existing aircraft in the fleet. In the case of Qatar Airways, its Qsuite was first installed on the Boeing 777 but its latest version is on the Airbus A350-1000, as we report in this issue.

This is the last in the line of brand new aircraft for the moment, with the derivative A330neo arriving later in the year, so line fit will remain a challenge but is unlikely to deter innovation.

Once again, Aircraft Cabin Management will have the honour of presenting the Crystal Cabin Award for Cabin Systems.

If you are attending the Aircraft Interiors Expo, please come and see us at Stand 1E60, or get in touch beforehand to set up an appointment.  We look forward to seeing you!

Air Transport Publications will be holding our fourth Cabin Repair & Refurbishment Conference at the Radisson Blu Edwardian at London-Heathrow on 12 June. For more details, see or get in touch if you would like to speak.
